Clarks have introduced a short film titled ‘Somerset to the World’ to celebrate their 200th anniversary featuring a range of music royalty such as Liam Gallagher, Raekwon & Ghostface Killah.
For those who weren’t swaggering about in Stone Island or killing “killer bees” on top of a skyscraper somewhere back in the 90s, Clarks can be a bit of a misunderstood shoe brand. For some it’s all about the school shoes, they’re good at that as well, and you’ll probably remember getting sized up in them magical machines they had back in the 80s & 90s. But, for many it’s all about the subcultures from the original Acid House revellers of the Hacienda to the original rude-boys of Kingston to the East Coast hip hop crews of the early 90s. Clarks for me personally was all about that early noughties “Designer Casual” look worn with Ralph Lauren cords, Paul & Shark striped rugby shirts, sovereign rings & a pair of trusty wallabees that were 90% of the time from the Somerset born brand. 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the original shoemakers and let’s be brutally honest not many brands out there can claim the sheer volume of the heritage associated with Clarks.
This short film from Clarks celebrates the brand’s heritage from humble beginnings in Street, Somerset to a global stage of hip hop icons & rock ‘n’ rollers. ‘Somerset to the World’ is narrated by Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) & features a range of music royalty & social media influencers such as Liam Gallagher, Big Youth, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, singer Lila Ike, DJ/presenter Becca Dudley, British-Jamaican designer Martine Rose, Dutch designer Danielle Cathari and Jamaican former footballer Allan ‘Skill’ Cole.
My earliest memories of Clarks, is probably when I’ve gone to school because everyone was wearing them, they were the all the rage back then. I wore Clarks all the way through the ‘90s, got lots of memories. I don’t think there is any other brand for me, really I find it hard to even look at other brands, Clarks have never let me down.
