The Nike Air Max 180 Black/Dusty Cactus puts an inverted colourway spin on the early 90s’ 180-degree Air Max design from Tinker Hatfield & Bruce Kilgore.
It seems crazy as far as sneaker releases are concerned that we’re now talking about revival releases of the late 2010’s in the past tense. Following the 20th anniversary of OG Air Max silhouettes like the Air Max 97 in 2017, the late 2010’s saw a huge resurgence of visible Air nothing quite seen before. With OG releases coming thick and fast during this period Air Max fans were treated to a range of classic Air Max silhouettes like the Nike Air Max 180 trainer which was re-released back in 2018 in its legendary ‘Infrared’ colourway. Fast forward 6 years later to 2024 and the OG silhouette is officially back, once again dropping in its most notable colourway. For September 2024 the early 90s cult classic now returns in an inverted version of the ‘Dusty Cactus’ colourway from the Air Max 93 with the introduction of Nike Air Max 180 Black/Dusty Cactus trainer.
Following in the footsteps of the Air Max 1 from 1987, the Air Max Light from 1989 & the Air Max 90 from 1990, the Air Max 180 marked the 4th instalment of “visible air”. Designed by the original Air Max 1 designer, Tinker Hatfield, as well as the original Air Force 1 designer, Bruce Kilgore, the Air Max 180 was released at a pinnacle of sole technology & trainer innovation in 1991. The main visible difference compared to previous Air Max releases was the fact the Air bag unit actually made contact with the ground. The Air bubble was also twice as big as previous AM silhouettes with 180 degrees of “visible air”. The 180 was also famously worn by Michael Jordan at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Notable colourways of the Nike Air Max 180 included ‘concorde’ & ‘ultramarine’.
Now dropping in an inverted version of the legendary ‘Dusty Cactus’ colourway as famously seen on the Air Max 93, the Nike Air Max 180 Black/Dusty Cactus features leather & textile uppers with pops of ‘dusty cactus’ to the air bubbles, sole & heel. The fully visible 180-degree Air Unit remains true to the OG design with cream side swooshes to the sidewalls & 180 Air branding to the tongue tab. Shop the drop now at size?.
