The New Balance 740 is an early noughties running trainer that now gets treated to a revival release in white/marsh green/sea salt courtesy of the Boston born sportswear brand.
From recent signings with the basketball college sensation, Cooper Flagg, to their ongoing creative partnership with Aimé Leon Dore founder, Teddy Santis, it’s fair to say New Balance have been absolutely smashing the sneaker game. As usual with New Balance it’s all about them revival releases, that’s not to say their new stuff is no good, but with the revival stuff it’s got all that nostalgia whether it’s the noughties or the nineties and as much as the sneaker game continues to evolve, we still just can’t seem to get enough of them. For October 2024 New Balance fans are treated to another revival release with the launch of the New Balance 740 white/marsh Green/sea salt trainer, an early noughties runner from the turn of the millennium.
What is key to point out here is noughties New Balance silhouettes like the 740 were strictly for runners. They were never marketed as lifestyle trainers but with this new found running trend of tattoos, tote bags & various types of coffee, running has become cool, a bit like it was in the 1980s, allowing a new crossover trend of strictly running silhouettes to flourish. Running crews grabbing pastries & coffee from Hackney Wick to Holborn in the latest sneaker trends has become like a catwalk of technical running garb for Instagram feeds & stories. With the current running trend, which doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon, it made perfect sense for New Balance to re-release the 740 with all its Y2K runner charm.
Now revived from the running archives, the New Balance 740 trainer features white wide-gauge knit mesh uppers with metallic ‘marsh green’ overlays for a streamlined design. Other highlights include NB’s ABZORB sole cushioning for compression resistance wherever the run may take you. A speed lacing system, reflective accents & TPU ‘N’ branding to the sidewalls completes the early noughties revival runner. The New Balance 740 white/marsh Green/sea salt trainer launches from select retailers such as size? from 16th October 2024. The updated 740 features some of the same synthetic materials, mesh, and metallic overlays, while introducing new colorways and trim to offer a refreshed contemporary take.
