As the official opening ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympics get underway, Nike also head to Paris with the Art of Victory exhibition at the Centre Pompidou.

It’s crazy really to think the legacy of the original Nike Air Max from the legendary Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, started way back in 1987. As the “space race” equivalent of sneakers was in full swing of who could create the greatest sole technology, Nike went one-up on the sneaker game with the introduction of the Nike Air Max 1 in 1987. A legacy of ‘visible air’ that now spans nearly 40 years all started with inspiration from one particular building, the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In celebration of the legacy of Air Max & the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nike head to the French capital with the “Art of Victory” exhibition.

Taking over the iconic Centre Pompidou building, Nike celebrate its rich sporting heritage across track & field, football, basketball & skateboarding. Explore Nike’s timeline of timeless silhouettes like the Air Jordan & Air Max to modern day track technology across various exhibition rooms.

I think the message of this partnership, for me, is to go ahead and be bold when you have a good idea. Go ahead and take a risk. Be at least a little disruptive so people notice what you’re doing. I think that’s true for the building as well as the Air Max 1. The technology is important, but it’s the act of boldness and being disruptive that made everybody pay attention.

Tinker Hatfield, Nike Air Max designer

The Art of Victory exhibition is now open at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and runs till August 11h 2024.
