Introducing Nike: Form Follows Motion Exhibition

Curated by Glenn Adamson the ‘Form Follows Motion’ exhibition from Nike marks the first ever museum exhibition for the legendary Swoosh label.

Following on from our recent feature exploring whether or not to buy Nike (NKE) stock, the share price literally shot up over night. That’s the thing though with Nike, they always “bounce” back, whether its state of the art sole technology or stock market values. For September 2024 Nike & head curator, Glenn Adamson, head to Germanys Weil Am Rein and the Vitra Design Museum for a very special “swoosh” exhibition. Tilted ‘Form Follows Motion’ the exclusive exhibition from Nike follows the previously known Blue Ribbon Sports’ humble beginnings to the globally respected sports brand it is today. Taking an excusive insight into the Oregon born brands’ rich history of sole technology and research & development dating back to the 1960s with the formation of the famous swoosh logo and revolutionary trainer tech such as the Air Max story to modern day materials like Flyknit.

Like other major sportswear brands, Nike also have their very own archive, the Department of Nike Archives, which boasts around 200,000 items from fabric research to designs that never quite made it to the development stage. Using these “one of a kind” archive pieces the swoosh story is brought to life courtesy of curator Glen Adamson with original Waffle trainers, Olympic windbreakers, Nike advertisements from the 1970s & 1980s, original Air Max illustrations from Tinker Hatfield, athlete endorsements and original prototypes. Split into 4 key sections; Track, Air, Sensation and Collaboration, the Form Follows Motion Exhibition also showcases the story of VaporMax, Flyknit & Nike’s very latest design technology as well as the swoosh brands’ global influence on sports, pop culture and footwear design innovation.
