In celebration of the release of season 2 of the South Korean dystopian survival series, Squid Game, which lands on Netflix on 26th December 2024, PUMA have launched a collection of collaboration tracksuits & trainers.
Drawing inspiration from the tracksuits worn by the debt ridden contestants such as Seon Gi-hun & Kang Sae-byeok, the legendary German sportswear brand puts its own dystopian spin on some classic PUMA silhouettes. First released back in 2021, Squid Game was written by Hwan Dong-hyuk and follows the story of 456 players who compete in a ‘life or death’ series of children’s games in a chance to win a prize of 45.6 billion won. Inspired by Dong-hyuk’s own economic struggles & the financial inequality of South Korea, the series gained critical acclaim after its original release.
The PUMA Squid Game tracksuit takes us back to the stacked metal frame beds of the contestants dorm, literally thanks to the campaign, with an updated velour design for a premium spin on the iconic uniform. The signature white stripes remain down the sleeves and legs with a PUMA Squid Games embroidered badge to the chest. There’s also a graphic t-shirt and two classic PUMA footwear silhouettes.
The PUMA x Squid Game Easy Rider takes the legendary late 70s runner with green uppers & red suede overlays. The collaboration Easy Rider also features the signature studded sole of the lightweight runner with a rubber lace tag of the iconic school girl which features in the first Squid Game, red light green light. There’s also a Squid Games Suede traner which features multi-coloured uppers in pink, blue, magenta & yellow which draw inspiration from the corridors and stair-wells the contestants walk through.
