Originally released back in 2010 as a follow up to the New Balance 2001 and the Boston born sportswear brand’s 1000 series, the 2002 was revived from the archives 10 years later. Giving a design nod to the 1906, the original ‘Made in USA’ release fell under the “lifestyle” radar after its original release. Knowing of its popularity in Japan, New Balance employee Tetsuya Shono put forward the 2002 as an archive model re-release, following the success of the re-launch of the 99x series. 2020 saw the release of the 2002R trainer, marking the 10th anniversary of the original release. The 2002R ditched the original sole of the 2002 and replaced it with the New Balance 860v2, the end result is what can only be described as one of the most talked about New Balance silhouettes of the last 5 years.
Featuring the signature deconstructed uppers of the original ‘Protection Pack’ from 2021 the New Balance 2002R is now treated to a size? exclusive for March 2025. Featuring a muted palette of earthy tones which draw inspiration from core minerals & natural metals with a combination of mesh & suede uppers.
