Plans to build another wind turbine at the New Balance Flimby factory has been given a second chance after an appeal was granted by Cumberland Council.

Sustainable energy really is the way forward, whether it’s electric cars or powering our local grids with the wind energy generated from wind turbines. The futuristic looking wind turbines have often caused criticism from locals stating they ruin the “countryside” aesthetic. But regardless of your views, we need more sustainable energy and this is what New Balance were trying to achieve by submitting plans for another wind turbine near their Flimby factory in the UK. Cumberland Council had previously rejected proposals last August to build the turbine however an appeal has now been granted. Local residents had objected to the plans and also claimed there were safety concerns for the workers, however a spokesperson for the Boston born brand argued that the turbine was needed as the factory was unable to install any more solar panels in a bid to become even more sustainable. The appeal will be heard at Carlisle Civic Centre next Wednesday.

If approved the turbine would generate a total of 1,805MW of electricity a year and would be based close to the A596. Providing further power for the iconic Flimby factory which boasts around 300 workers and has manufactured some of the most sought after New Balance ‘Made in UK’ releases from collaborations with Stone Island to revival releases.
